What Are Safelists?

Safelists are online *communities* comprised of people who joined them for the specific purpose of advertising to all other members of each specific safelist.  By joining, you also agree to receive all other members' advertising messages.

All safelists do not perform exactly the same, however.

1) Some safelists are simple ad exchanges - "I get to send ads to you and you get to send
ads to me" - without any form of earning credits for reading.

You'll have to make your headlines and ads stand out monstrously on these types of safelists since there is no other incentive to open or click the link inside!

2) Some safelists allow you to earn credits for reading the ads of others online in a
    member area.

3) Some safelists allow you to earn credits for reading the ads of others in your own
    email box
.

Although you may sign up and use all three kinds,
this guide concentrates on the most successful type - those safelists that send messages directly to your email box and offer credits for clicking the links inside them.

HOT TIP:  Promoting your offers successfully with safelists requires that you join and post to as many as you have the time to handle DAILY.  You cannot expect to join one safelist to post to and be successful with that promotion.  But when you spread your messages over many safelists consistently every day, you'll be amazed at how many new prospects opt into your system for more information every week!

HOT TIP #2:  Use a portion of your profits to upgrade your safelist memberships, one by one. You'll be able to post more often to more people with a lot less clicking yourself!

Before You Join Any Safelists...

Sign up for 2 email addresses to be used specifically for your safelist activity.

You need 2 reliable email addresses that are used strictly for safelists ONLY. One will be your *CONTACT* email (where the safelist owners email you with important updates, credits, etc.),

...and one will be used for the *LIST* only (where you will receive the emails from all other list members).

These email boxes will receive a lot of email, so please open two new email accounts that are dedicated especially to your safelist activity.

NOTE:  The directions on these pages refer to free Google email accounts because they have been found to be the most reliable to date.

As you begin to join free safelists, you will notice that many of them will not allow you to join using yahoo, aol, hotmail, juno, netscape, netzero, inbox, comcast and a host of others, for GOOD REASON.  These email providers typically bounce or totally block safelist verification emails as well as list messages from other members.

Use Gmail.  It's not 100% trouble free, but nothing on the internet is.  Everyone I've spoken with who had email problems using other providers ELIMINATED those frustrations when they switched their safelist contact and list email addies to Gmail.

Joining and Setting Up Your Safelists

Bookmark this page!

Sign up for your FIRST safelist from the Power Downline Builder link.

When you arrive on the main page of each safelist you join, click around on a few of its buttons and links to get to know it.  Compare the safelist's membership levels and take note of how often free members can mail to the list

SAVE those details and all other pertinent information like the login link, your username, password and your affiliate link to a special "My Safelists" file on your desktop (or other easily remembered folder) as you go along.

During the sign up process, you'll be asked what your CONTACT email address is and also what your LIST email address is. Be careful here and keep them straight!

Use the same list email address for each safelist you join.  Likewise, use the same contact email address for each safelist you join.

Most safelists require you to verify both your list and contact addresses. So, once you have signed up for the first safelist, login to your CONTACT email address Gmail account.

Open the confirmation email message you received from the safelist and click the link inside it to verify your email.  Leave this email open for the next step.

When you market online using safelists, you will get a TON of email.  We are now going to give your Gmail account some instructions so that it will label and filter specific emails from specific lists and place them in their own little sections, not just all scattered by the hundreds in your inbox.

When you need to earn credits to send your own ads through a particular list, this organization will allow you to quickly find all the emails with credit links in them from that specific list.

  1. Look at the open email you have in front of you. At the top of it underneath the subject title, you'll see a *show details* link.  Click on it to see where this email came from.  What domain did the email come from?  vitaladviews.com?  globalsafelist.com?  Something else?  Highlight and copy this part of the *from* email address.

(Example:  If the from address is bounce@vitaladviews.com, you'd highlight and copy just the domain like this:  vitaladviews.com)

  2. Right next to the Search the Web button at the top of the page, click on the Create a Filter link.

  3. Paste the safelist email domain in the "From:" field. Then click the Next Step button.

  4. On the next page that pops open, check the Skip Inbox option.

  5. Now check the Apply Label option, and in the drop down box, choose New Label. A box will open for you to type in the name of the safelist (if it's VitalAdViews, type that in ... If it's GlobalSafelist, type that in, etc.).  Click the Okay button.

  6. Now click the Create Filter button towards the bottom of the page.

All contact email messages from that safelist will now be directed toward the new label you created with the same name. You'll see your new label in your Gmail account in the left column in the Labels section.

Whenever you want to click for credits on that list or read the safelist admin's special alerts & updates, go to this folder.

Delete the verification email and log out.

Whenever you want to click for credits on that list, go to this folder.

Delete the verification email and log out.

Follow the same exact procedure for each safelist you join.  Bookmark this page as well as Page 4 so you'll have complete instructions whenever you need them to join new safelists.  After a few times through, you won't need them at all.

If you make it a point to join 3 safelists per day, in just one 5-day week, you will have joined, verified, and filtered 15 safelists!

To create an absolute safelist marketing arsenal, I suggest that over time, you join 30-50 safelists at MINIMUM.

Clicking For Credits

Log into both your safelist email accounts every day to click credit links.

Generally, the credits you'll click from your CONTACT email account will earn far more credits with each click than the LISTemails, so be sure to click them first!

You don't have to click on every email that comes through with a credit link. You can choose to click on just enough so that you can post an ad to a specific safelist for that particular day.

Preparation:

Before clicking, delete all the emails that are too old, where their credits have expired. Usually, if they're older than 5-7 days, their credit links won't work, so clear your works space and get rid of them. Here's how...

Login to Gmail. Find the label link of the safelist you're working with in the left column and click on it to open that section.

At the top right of that particular section, you'll notice that Gmail tells you how many messages you have stored there.  Click on theOldest link and Gmail will take you to the last page of messages you have - they are older than all messages previous to them.

If these messages are older than 5-7 days, the credit links will probably not work anymore.  (Before deleting any of those that are within 7 days old, you may want to test their credit links, as some safelists allow credit clicking up to 7 days old.)  Delete all those that have expired.

If you need to delete whole pages at a time, go to the top left of the section right under the Archive button and click the Select All link.  Every message on that page will be selected or checkmarked.  Click the Delete button and they'll all disappear.

Then start clicking on the oldest ones that are still left but not expired:

  1. Click open an email.

  2. RIGHT-click on the "credit link" and choose Open in New Tab. It pops up behind and beside the open email page, so you don't see it or even look at it during this activity. Keep your attention focused on your email account, not the open pages.

If you wish, you can configure your Internet Explorer 7.0 or Firefox browser to open links in new tabs instead of new windows, which would eliminate the need to right-click and choose *open in new tab* -  Internet Explorer  |  Mozilla Firefox

  3. Delete the email.

  4. Open the next email & repeat, and so on.

  5. When you have approx. 10-20 or so tabs open, close them all.

  6. Start the process over again.

You'll find that you develop your own rhythm and efficiency as you put this process into practice.

NOTE: Credits are pretty cheap to buy, so you may want to combine both clicking for credits plus buying them to cut down on your clicking time.

More Notes on Working With Gmail

Deleting Whole Sections of Emails at a Time

In your List Gmail account, remember that we created filters to direct incoming messages with credit links in them to their respective labeled section for easy credit clicking later.

Some safelist also have what is termed a Regular or Standard mailer that members can use when they run out of credits.  These messages do NOT contain credit links and are therefore useless to you.

And every one of them will be landing in your List Gmail account inbox since only the messages containing credit links are directed to the labeled sections.

Here's how to delete hundreds or thousands of them at a time...

Login to Gmail.

At the top right of the inbox section, you'll notice that Gmail tells you how many messages you have stored there.

Go to the top left of the section right under the Archive button and click the Select All link.  Every message on that page will be selected or checkmarked.

Notice here that a new line has been created just under where you selected All. It says:

All __ conversations on this page are selected. Select all __ conversations in Inbox

Click the Select all __ conversations in Inboxlink and all hundreds or thousands of emails in that section will be selected.

Click the Delete button and they'll all disappear. Easy!

When Credit Link Messages Land in Spam

It is inevitable that some of the messages with credit links in them will land in your spam section. You can train your Gmail account to drop those messages in the labeled section where they belong instead.  Here's how...

Open your Spam section.  You'll notice which messages have credit links in them because the subject titles are preceded by their respective labels.

Select the ones you want to keep for credit clicking by ticking off the little white box just to the left of them.

Once you've selected which messages you want to keep, click the NOT SPAM button at the top of the section.

At this point, Gmail will take those messages out of Spam and put them in your inbox.  But later when more messages come in with that label, Gmail will direct them to the section where they belong rather than dumping them in Spam.

What To Watch For When Clicking

While you're clicking for credits, pay attention to the headlines you're reading as well as the ad copy.

What are people selling? What is catching your eye? Why? What made the ad stand out to you?

Have a notepad open and handy to jot down or paste notes about the successful advertising you see that you may be able to incorporate into your own methods.

Plus, if you notice that a large percentage of members of a particular safelist are sending ads about the same thing you are, you'll know you have to do it bigger and better than anyone else, or choose something else to market to that list.

While you're clicking for credits, pay attention also to other credit-based safelists that are being advertised. Add them to your safelist advertising arsenal!

If the safelist is new, there's a good possibility that special features may be in place for the first few hundred that join.

To increase your range of exposure, join as many as you can handle.

Your Ad Posting Schedule

Use your credits to send an ad to each safelist as often as possible.

Some safelists will allow free members to send every 24 hours, and some won't.  Some even allow free members to send twice a day. Keep track of how often each safelist will allow you to send. (This information should have already been saved in your "My Safelists" file.)

Based on that information, make up a schedule of which safelist to send to on which days of the week.

For example, if Safelist-A allows you to send every other day (or every two days), you might schedule to send an ad to that safelist on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of every week.  Bookmark those safelists in folders you create in your Favorites labeled Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Similarly, if Safelist-B allows you to send every 3 days, you might schedule to send an ad to that safelist on Tuesday and Saturday.  Bookmark those safelists in folders you create in your Favorites labeled Tuesday & Saturday.

Create a Daily folder in your favorites to bookmark those safelists that allow you to post daily.

And so on...

For the most benefit, leads, prospects, and PAYCHECKS, discipline yourself to follow this schedule daily!

ALERT:  I can't begin to tell you HOW IMPORTANT it is to your safelist marketing SUCCESS to create your own advertising schedule and to follow it each day!

People tell me all the time that safelist marketing doesn't work for them, but upon questioning their safelist advertising routine, these people admit that they advertise sporadically at best.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE:  If you're not going to commit to a daily safelist ad posting schedule and follow it diligently using all the instructions in this guide, be prepared to FAIL and to become one of the many others who complain that safelist advertising doesn't work.

How do I know this?
My own advertising results changed dramatically when I followed the advice just given.

Posting Ads to Safelists

Learning to navigate each safelist you're working with is a must.  However, once you learn the basics of one safelist, you'll find the navigation to all other safelists to be pretty similar.

Here's a general guideline on how to post an ad.

At this point, we'll assume that you've accumulated enough credits to post an ad to the list members, so you will be sending a credit-based ad.

Login to the safelist.

Find and click on the Credit Mailer link or button, usually in the left column.

Many safelists allow you to choose to send your ad in text form or a colorful HMTL.

If you are sending a text ad but a visual editor pops open for you to insert an HTML ad, simply click the Send Your Ad In Text link right above the editor.

If you want to send your ad in HTML form and do not have the source code for it, use the visual editor to easily create it.

If you have the source code to your HTML ad, click on the Source Code button at the top left of the visual editor, paste in your HTML code, and then click the Source Code button again to see how your HTML ad looks.

Make sure to insert a catch subject title in the field provided for it.

Also paste your link that you want your prospects directed to in the field provided for that purpose.

If you are given the choice to save your ad, tick off the little white box next to the Save button.

Then, next time you want to post this ad, you'll login to the safelist and click the Saved Messages link or button (usually in the left column) to find and resend it.

Follow These Guidelines For Safelist Ad Posting Success

  1. When possible, send your ad in HTML.

Enhanced, bolded, and colored text is pleasing to the eye and draws the reader *in*, especially when most of the other emails they're seeing are boring black and white plain text.

  2. Brand each email ad with your name and photo if you have one (get one if you don't).

People like to buy from people they know (or recognize). Once they start seeing your name and face all over the place, they'll assume that you must be successful and want to do business with YOU instead of all the nameless and faceless advertisers selling the same thing.

Remember to use this same idea in blogs, forums, traffic exchanges, solo ads, and your email signature files, too!  The more you get yourself out there, the more people will associate you with internet marketing success, and the more likely your prospect will be paying YOU rather than someone else.

  3. Track your ads!

You'll want to know which headlines and ads work with which safelists and get the best click through rate.

http://clickaudit.com is a tracking services you can use totally free.

    See ProTrackerPlus on your
Power Downline Builder link for the best tracker out there.

  4. Rotate your ads and subject titles to each safelist you advertise to every day.

Avoid using the same ad and title for each safelist, even if the product is the same. You want each of your ads opened (for an extra opportunity to make a sale plus for branding purposes), and you don't want people thinking, "Oh, I saw that one already on my other list, so I'll skip it."

  5. Instead of trying to get your prospect to purchase something right away, have your credit link land them on a short lead capture page that offers a valuable product or information in exchange for their name and email address. That way, you can build a relationship with them over time and sell to them over and over again.

EzLeadCaptureSystem offers a wonderful whole package deal which includes your choice of many different kinds of customizeable lead capture pages with an autoresponder, to which you may add your own images, audio and video!

  6. Post ads as often as you can as regularly as you can.

Persistence and Consistency are the MOST IMPORTANT  keys to your success!

  7. No matter what you are promoting, once you start pulling in some sales, REINVEST at least 25% to 50% of your profits into some sort of PAID ADVERTISING.

Safelists offer a wide range of extra advertising --
-in and on their website itself,
-on the header and footer of the messages sent through it,
    -as solo email advertising,
-plus membership upgrades to reach more prospects faster.

Investigate your favorite safelists for their particular specials.

When you reinvest a portion of your profits into paid advertising regularly, your results (and PROFITS!) will increase exponentially!
