Put On The Whole Armor Of God And Do Not Take It Off

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all  prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints;    -- Eph 6:10-18

We Are To Forgive Everyone Lest We Open a Door To The Enemy

Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.    -- 2 Cor 2:10-11

"Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.  -- Eph. 4:26-27

If We Trust God And Lean On His Authority The Enemy Will Flee

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.    -- James 4:7

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. -- 1 Pe 5:8-9

The Word Of God Defeated Satan, The Temptation Of Jesus

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' " Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge concerning you,' and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.' " Jesus said to him, "It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the LORD our God.' " Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me. “Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' " Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.    -- Matthew 4:1-11

We Need To Test The Spirits If We Ever Encounter Them

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.  -- 1 Jn 4:1-6

We Overcome The Enemy Through The Blood And Our Testimony

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.    -- Rev 12:10-11

Our Lord Has Power And Authority Eternally

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked “in Christ” when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this page but also in that which is to come.    -- Ephesians 1:15-21

If We Remain Faithful The Enemy Cannot Influence Us

We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.    -- 1 John 5:18-21

With Jesus In Our Midst We Have Authority To Do God's Will

"Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."  -- Mat 18:18-20

He Has Given Us Authority To Perform The Following Works

"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."    -- Mark 16:17-18

Do Not Rejoice In The Power We Have Through Jesus' Name

"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven."  -- Lu 10:19-20

He Will Do Anything We Ask According To God's Will

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.    -- John 14:12-14

Wait Upon God Until We Receive Power From Heaven

"Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."    -- Luke 24:49

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."   -- Acts 1:8

The Kingdom Of God Reigns Through God's Spirit

For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.; for the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.  -- Luke 17:21; Romans 14:17; 2 Timothy 1:7; 1 Corinthians 4:20

The Trials Of Our Faith Are To Lead Us To Maturity

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let

patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.    -- James 1:2-8

This Is The Standard For Excellence

... be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.    -- James 1:22

... earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.    -- 1 Corinthians 12:31

Works Without Love Mean Nothing

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.    -- 1 Cor 13:1-3

Love Without Works Accomplishes Nothing

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe; and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?    -- James 2:17-20

The Holy Spirit Will Accomplish God's Will

'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts.    -- Zechariah 4:6

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.  -- Galatians 5:22-23

We are all trees in God's garden, each one of us revealing our hearts through the fruit we produce.  A good tree does not produce evil fruit.  By the fruits of a Christian's life, they are supposed to draw the lost unto salvation.

The Holy Spirit Operates The Gifts Through Everyone

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.  -- 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

The Lord Himself Appointed The Leadership Of The Church

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head; Christ; from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.  -- Eph 4:11-16Our qualifications to minister come through our Holy Bible.  If anyone thinks they are spiritual they should readily submit themselves to the elders of their assembly and let God inspire the leadership.  He reveals the place in the body of Christ where God desires to use our talents for His purpose and service.

Today, God calls us to witness through our lifestyles revealing the light of Jesus Christ.  If Jesus is lifted up He will draw all men unto Himself.  When a person is drawn to the light, our first responsibility is to invite them into relationship.  Then let our life reflect the life of Christ through us.  When the proper time comes, the Holy Spirit will motivate us to invite them to accept the Lord as their personal Savior.  Then we can simply pray with them, and invite them to church where the Saints congregate being spiritually fed and ministered to through the moving of the Holy Spirit. We have a choice to work for God or to work with God.  Knowledge and power can corrupt even the most sincere believer and cause problems through pride.  The Lord did not leave us without guidance.  We all need someone to oversee our growth, and when we come of age, God will use them to call us to our place in the body to serve others.

The Holy Spirit To Reveals Our True Calling

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked “in Christ” when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. -- Eph.1:13-23

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.  -- Heb 6:1-3

Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.    -- 1 Timothy 4:14

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.  -- 2 Ti. 1:6-7

The administration of the spiritual gifts releases the power of God through the Holy Spirit, who works the gifts in the church.  We are only a vessel that God can use.  We are not the originator or generator of the ministry.  The fruits brought about from the use of the gift will judge its value.  When we become obedient to the Word of God, the expression of our faith, the evidence of things not seen appears.  When we express our love for each other we will have the substance of things hoped for.  When we come together, let us love in deed as well as in word.  If we humble ourselves and pray for one another, we will receive a blessing we cannot contain.  We all need to face reality: the totally corrupt condition of our inner man.  Then we may understand our inadequacy and humble ourselves and pray for the revival of the Holy Spirit’s work in us.

We Need To Put Away Childish Ways To Go On And Do The Works

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.    -- 2 Timothy 2:15

It Is Through His Spirit God Works, Not Knowledge Or Power

'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts.    -- Zech. 4:6

When We Become Living Sacrifices God Will Add On Works To Do

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. -- Romans 12:1-4

We Are One Body In Christ Called To Serve

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.    -- Rom. 12:5-8

There Are Diverse Gifts But The Same Spirit Works Them In Us

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of heading by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.    -- 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

After the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of our Lord, He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us always. By the grace of God, He saves us  through faith, and our faith is the gift of God.  The Holy Spirit works the gifts through us to accomplish the good works God that prepared for us to do.  The gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit as He wills, and He performs them through us for the reconciliation of all of humanity.

The Holy Spirit knows and searches our hearts.  He knows all things.  We are not alone.  He will be with us always even unto the end of the age.  The rest of the studies in this volume deal primarily with spiritual matters and the enemies of the church.  The enemy deceives the people who serve him, and often blinds them to the tactics of the god of this world', as well as to God's love as revealed through the Gospel.  If there ever was a need for workers in the church, the day is here.  The fields are white and ready to harvest.  Today is the day salvation, and the time to harvest. We can get involved with the great commission by seeking God's will, knowing He will give us the peace that surpasses all understanding, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit to guide us.  He will use us to reconcile others so that we may share in His glory, our eternal reward, life with God through His only declared Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The spiritual gifts are for the warfare that is still being fought.  This war will go on until Jesus redeems the entire creation.  There is a chain of command and we are to respect those whom God has put in authority above us.  God the Father is the Commander In Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ is our Secretary Of Defense, and the Holy Spirit is our Commanding General.  Through the Holy Spirit we receive our orders and the direction we need to overcome the enemies of the church.  Before we go to war we need to prepare.  This work will begin the process and hopefully the Holy Spirit will spur the church into revival.  God appointed those in the church, and gave gifts to His servants to take us through basic and advanced individual training.

Jesus Set Us Free From Every Enemy In Order To Set Others Free

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.    -- Romans 8:38-39

God Provides Us With Followers To Lead Us To The Truth

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.    -- 1 Corinthians 12:28

We Will Recognize Them Through God Preserving Their Ministry

Truly the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds.   -- 2 Corinthians 12:12

Our Growth Will Cause Us To Become A Temple God Inhabits

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.    -- Ephesians 2:19-22

The Purpose And Goals Of The Leaders God Gives The Church

-- Ephesians 4:11-16

The Anointing Of The Holy Spirit Will Teach Us Discernment

Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us; eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him. --1 Jn 2:18-29

There is a vast difference between being religious and to have an intimate spiritual relationship with God.  Religion is man's attempt to reach out to God by any other means that the one He has provided.

Anyone who has religion knows about God or about the gods of this world, yet those who have the Holy Spirit know God personally through their own spirit.  God gave them His Holy Spirit to lead them and guide them in this world.  We know we are His because the anointing we received remains in us.  We can experience this every day and the assurance that we are in Him and that He remains in us. For we have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but we have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.  Amen!

And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."    -- Rev. 21:3-4

THE LAYING ON OF HANDS

The laying on of hands is for ordination or in connection with consecration for the members of the church.  It is a significant part of the New Testament church and covenant.   It is a gift the Lord gave His life for and we can graciously take advantage of this gift or not.  This gift is part of our great commission to preach the gospel, for it is written:

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."    -- Mark 16:15-18

The laying on of hands is used to heal the sick, convey blessings, consecrate believers, to assist believers who want to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, ordain ministers for divine service, and confirm believers who receive their spiritual gifts.  Any one who desires to have the elders lay hands upon them should ask them.  The pastor should call upon our elders to pray for us to receive God's blessings and trust God for the results.  After all, Jesus is the "Author and Finisher" of our faith.

EXAMPLES OF THE MINISTRY

In The Ministry Of Healing

Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. - Mark 6:5

Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue.  Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him,  "Ephphatha," that is, "Be opened." Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.    -- Mark 7:32-35

Now when the sun was setting, all those who had anyone sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" And He, rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was the Christ.    -- Luke 4:40-4

Used on the Sabbath

Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.  And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise  herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity."  And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, "There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day." The Lord then answered him and said, "Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath  loose his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? "So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound; think of it; for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?" And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.    -- Lu 13:10-17

Used By The Apostles

And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. They also honored us in many ways; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary. -- Act 28:8-10

Jesus Blessed The Children

Then they brought young children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.  -- Mark10:13-16

Officials Consecrated, Set Apart For Divine Service

"Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; "but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word." And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them. - Acts 6:3-6

In Healing Or Conveying A Blessing

And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."  Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.    -- Acts 9:17-18

To Receive The Holy Spirit

Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.    -- Acts 8:14-17

For confirming gifts and to ordain ministers

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.    -- Acts 13:2-3
