GOD AND PRAYER - OUR SOUL SOURCE

Whenever some people think of prayer there are some premeditated notions on what, where, when and why or how they should communicate with God.  We may cling to ideas that prevent us from developing an intimate relationship with the Lord.  It would be better for us to think of ourselves as the individuals we are, and the Lord as our personal Savior.  The emotional bonds and relationship will grow when the truth comes forth out of the meditations of our hearts.

The deepest love affairs come from the purest form of sincerity, honesty and reality.  'May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord!'  If only all our prayers could be as genuine as these thoughts and intents expressed by the Psalmist, we would glorify God in them.

Are we so busy we cannot take a few fleeting moments to talk over the day's events with the Lord?  He surely cares about our triumphs and tragedies, just as He cares about the hairs on our head.  Every time we talk over the ordinary things in life with Him, we are establishing the kind of relationship He desires to have with us.

Become God's friend by being obedient and knowing His desires for you.  It is easier to love someone when they are friends.  It is also easier to have a conversation with them.  When we care about the things of God, learn to trust in Him with the little things in life, and surrender all our needs we will begin an intimate relationship and fall in love.

Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!    -- Psalms 31:19

Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way  to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,  And your justice as the noonday.   -- Ps 37:3-6

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him. -- Ps.32:10

The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.    -- Psalms 34:22

You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. -- Psalms 115:11

It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in princes.    -- Psalms 118:8-9

How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.    -- Psalms 119:9-11

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.    -- Proverbs 3:5-7

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD  forever, for in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength. -- Is. 26:3-4

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.  Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. -- 1 John 5:13-15

By Abiding ‘In Christ’

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. --John 15:7

By Believing We Received Them

And Peter, remembering, said to Him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away."  So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God.  "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says.  "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.  "And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. "But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses." -- Mark 11:21-26

It’s The Request Of Our Lips

You have given him his heart's desire, And have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah -- Ps.21:2

All Things Will Work For Our Good

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?  Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns?   It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."  Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is ‘in Christ’ Jesus our Lord. -- Romans 8:28-39

God Hears The Righteous

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.  The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. -- Psalms 34:17-19

God Hears Those Who Delight In Him

Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.  Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.  He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,  And your justice as the noonday. -- Psalm 37:3-6

He Will Hear Us In Our Day Of Trouble

Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High.  Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."  - Psalms 50:14-15

Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.  For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive,  And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.  Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You,  For You will answer me. -- Psalm 86:4-7

As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me.  Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud,   And He shall hear my voice. -- Psalm 55:16-17

Ask, Seek, And Knock

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.  "Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  "Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?   "If you then, being  evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. - Mt. 7:7-12

God Will Send An Answer Even As We Pray

"It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear. -- Isaiah 65:24

In Jesus' Name And By His Authority We Can Do All Things According To God’s Will

"Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.  "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." -- Matthew 18:18-20

"Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.  "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.  "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. "If you love Me, keep My Commandments. --John 14:10-15

He Will Answer Us When We Do What Is Pleasing To Him

My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.  And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.  For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.  And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.  And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.   Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. -- 1 John 3:18-24

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.  Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.- 1 Jn 5:13-15

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. -- Hebrews 11:6

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.  "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?  "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of  the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; "and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  "Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or ‘What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'  "For after all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.  -- Matthew 6:24-34

He Will Deliver Us When We Humble Ourselves

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. -- Psalm 91:15

"...if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  -- 2 Chronicles 7:14

Disobedience

"And the LORD said to me, 'Tell them, "Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; lest you be defeated before your enemies." '  "So I spoke to you; yet you would not listen, but rebelled against the command of the LORD, and presumptuously went up into the mountain.  "And the Amorites who dwelt in that mountain came out against you and chased you as bees do, and drove you back from Seir to Hormah. "Then you returned and wept before the LORD, but the LORD would not listen to your voice nor give ear to you. -- Deuteronomy 1:42-45

Secret Sin

Come and hear, all you who fear God, And I will declare what He has done for my soul.  I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue.  If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.  But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.  Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me!  -- Psalms 66:16-20

Indifference

Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,  because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.  "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.  Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, they would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies.  For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil."  -- Proverbs 1:24-33

By Despising The Laws Of God

Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons shames his father.

One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion gathers it for him who will pity the poor.  One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be an abomination.  Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good things.   -- Prov. 28:7-10

The Wrong Motives Of The Heart

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts.  To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. - Pro.21:2-3

Neglect Of Mercy

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will also cry himself and not be heard. -- Proverbs 21:13

Because Of Iniquity

It is a joy for the just to do justice, but destruction will come to the workers of iniquity. -- Proverbs 21:15

He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness and honor. -- Proverbs 21:21

Because Of Guilt

When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.  "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.  Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, reprove the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.  "Come  now, and let us reason together," says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.  If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword"; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.  -- Isaiah 1:15-20

Because Of Stubbornness Or Iniquity

Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.  But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perversity.  No one calls for justice, nor does any plead for truth, they trust in empty words and speak lies; they conceive evil and bring forth iniquity.  -- Isaiah 59:1-4

And I said: "Hear now, O heads of Jacob, and you rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know justice?  You who hate good and love evil; who strip the skin from My people, and the flesh from their bones;   Who also eat the flesh of My people, flay their skin from them, break their bones, and chop them in pieces like meat for the pot, Like flesh in the caldron." Then they will cry to the LORD, but He will not hear them; He will even hide His face from them at that time, because they have been evil in their deeds.  -- Micah 3:1-4

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion everyone to his brother.  Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor.  Let none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother.' "But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.  "Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. "Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen," says the LORD of hosts. - Zech.7:9-13

Because Of Instability

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.  For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.  -- James 1:5-8

Our Prayers May Not Be In The Divine Will Of God

Then He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."  But He said,  "You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live."  And the LORD said, "Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock.  "So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.  "Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen."  -- Ex 33:19-23

Moses' Lost His Heart's Desire Because Of God's Anger

'O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds?  'I pray, let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, those pleasant mountains, and Lebanon.'  "But the LORD was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me. So the LORD said to me: 'Enough of that! Speak no more to Me of this matter.  'Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift your eyes toward the west, the north, the south, and the east; behold it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan.  'But command Joshua, and encourage him and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you will see.' -- Deu 3:24-28

A Kings' Failure -- 1 Samuel 28:3-19

The Apostle Paul Suffered For His Own Humility

For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I forbear, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me. And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.  Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.  And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in  needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.  -- 2 Corinthians 12:6-10

THE FOURFOLD REASON TO PRAISE GOD

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.  --1 Peter 2:9-19

IT IS OUR DUTY TO GLORIFY GOD

You who fear the LORD, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!  -- Psalms 22:23

ALL PEOPLE ARE TO PRAISE HIM

Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  -- Psalms 67:3

Let them give glory to the LORD, and declare His praise in the coastlands.  -- Isaiah 42:12

WE PRAISE GOD THROUGH CHRIST

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of  praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.  But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.-- He 13:15-16

WE CAN PRAISE HIM IN SONG

Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people.  -- Psalms 9:11

WITH THE USE OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Praise the LORD with the harp;  Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings.  -- Psalms 33:2

THROUGH GOOD WORKS

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. -- Matthew 5:16

BY BEARING FRUIT

"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.  -- John 15:8

BY SPIRITUAL UNITY

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.  -- Romans 15:5-7

WE ARE TO CONSECRATE OUR ENTIRE BEING

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.- 1 Corinthians 6:20

Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.  -- 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Sing aloud to God our strength; Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob.  Raise a song and strike the timbrel, The pleasant harp with the lute.  Blow the trumpet at the time of the New Moon, At the full moon, on our solemn feast day. For this is a statute for Israel, And a law of the God of Jacob.  -- Psalms 81:1-4

Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.   For the LORD is the great God, And the great King above all gods.  --Psalms 95:1-3

You shall have a song as in the night when a holy festival is kept, and gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the Mighty One of Israel.  -- Isaiah 30:29

What is the result then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. -- Isaiah 14:15

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.- Ephesians 5:18-21

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  -- Colossians 3:17-17

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.  -- James 5:13-16

WE ARE EXHORTED TO THANK GOD

WARNINGS AGAINST FORGETTING TO THANK GOD

"When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. "Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, "lest; when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; "and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; "when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; "who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the rock of flint; "who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end; "then you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.' "And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.  "Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. "As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.  --  Deut. 8:10-20

WHEN WE COME BEFORE HIM

Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!  Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.  Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;  We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.  For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.  -- Psalms 100

Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!  Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And declare His works with rejoicing.  -- Psalms 107:21-22

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may have a walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.  He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.  -- Colossians 1:9-14

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.  But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. -- Colossians 3:12-17

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.  See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.  Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.  Do not despise prophecies.  Test all things; hold fast what is good.  Abstain from every form of evil.  -- 1 Thessalonians 5:14-22
